Medication information of Ariocort ointment

Ariocort ointment contains two ingredients called triamcinolone and chlorotetracycline. Triamcinolone is a potent topical corticosteroid. Topical corticosteroids are also called topical steroids. Topical steroids, in addition to being moisturizing (emollient), are also used to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. Triamcinolone relieves inflammation, itching and redness. Chlorotetracycline is an antibacterial agent used to treat infected areas of the skin.

Ariocort ointment is prescribed to treat inflammation and infection of the skin. This inflammation or infection can be caused by eczema or infectious dermatitis and insect bites, and is usually used twice a day for a week. Strong topical steroids such as triamcinolone are generally not suitable for children, although a dermatologist may sometimes prescribe shorter doses of this ointment for an older child.
