Protamine is a simple protein derived from the sperm of salmon and some other species of fish. Protamine is low in molecular weight and rich in arginine. Protamine is a fine white powder that is slightly soluble in water. Protamine injection solution is a sterile, non-pyrogenic and isotonic solution of protamine sulfate in water that acts as a heparin antagonist and is a poor anticoagulant

Protamine is used to treat heparin overdose.
