Tocilizumab is used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis in adults or children (such as systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA), polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (PJIA)). Tocilizumbe is used to relieve pain and swelling caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Tocilizumab can also be used to treat reactions caused by some cancer therapies (Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS)). Tocilizumab belongs to the class of interleukin-6 blocking drugs, which reduce inflammation by blocking IL-6 (a substance made by the body that causes swelling (inflammation)).
