ms weird feeling in head

ms weird feeling in head is something that many people with multiple sclerosis suffer from.Multiple sclerosis , well its a chronic condition involving the central nervous system of the body that is often known as CNS.

With MS, the immune system attacks the myelin. Myelin is a layer around nerve fibers which protects the nerve from damage.

MS leads to inflammation and temporary lesions in the brain and sometimes it can also lead to lasting or permanent lesions caused by scar tissue, which can make it very hard for the brain to be able to send signals to the rest of the body.

Unfortunately there’s no cure for MS, but it’s symptoms can be managed that's possible .

To know more about what causes MS and what is the treatment and how it gets weird head feeling keep reading.

What causes ms weird feeling in head?

If one has  MS, the protective layer of myelin that is present around some of the nerve fibers of the brain,  spinal cord and optic nerve become damaged. It’s believed that the damage is the result of an immune system attack.

Few Researchers think that there could be an environmental trigger, like a virus or toxin, which sets off the immune system attack.

As the human immune system attacks myelin, it causes demyelination and nerve becomes protection less .

This can obviously go into remission as the new layers of myelin get formed , however  chronic inflammation can lead to scaring in the tissue, that can result in lasting neurological impairment.

MS isn’t a hereditary disease, but having a parent or a sibling with MS raises the risk slightly to some extent. Scientists over the years have identified some genes which seem to increase the susceptibility to developing MS.

What are the symptoms of ms weird feeling in head?

People who have MS tend to experience a wide range of symptoms , which is why due to the course of the disease symptoms can vary widely from one person to another  person.

Even they can also have some changes in severity from year to year, and month to month, or even day to day. Here down below are some of the common most symptoms associated with MS :

  • Headache : Headaches are a  very common cause of pain and discomfort in people who suffer with MS. It may even be an early sign or first sign that leads towards someone may have MS. People with MS have headaches more frequently than those without this medical condition. Most people with MS have  had a headache pain within the last 4 weeks. The types of headaches vary however most of them have throbbing or pulsating headaches. Nobody is sure  exactly why some people with MS may have more frequent headaches than others . As with any common symptom, the actual cause of headache may not be known, or it can be due to another underlying experience. Some causes of headache pain may be linked to the following :
  • lifestyle habits
  • specific triggers like sunlight
  • other underlying  health issues aside from MS

Underlying Health issues aside from MS that may cause headache pain include the following:

  • being dehydrated or intentionally not drinking enough water
  • consuming too much  coffee or caffeine rich products
  • drinking too much alcohol
  • eating certain triggering foods, such as those containing monosodium glutamate, aspartame, or even high amounts of salt
  • not eating enough food or going without food for too long period
  • sleep disorders, like too much or too little sleep
  • stress and anxiety
  • Fatigue : Around  3/4th of people who suffer with MS report having fatigue. Fatigue which occurs with MS can make it harder for the person to go about with everyday tasks.
  • Difficulty walking : Difficulty walking may even lead to injuries if a person falls. This can occur with MS due to :
  • numbness in the legs or in the feet
  • difficulty balancing as brain is involved
  • muscle weakness
  • muscle spasticity
  • difficulty with vision as it affects eyes
  • Vision problems : this problem is often among first symptoms for many people who suffer with MS. Vision problems can happen in one or both eyes in the MS. These issues can either come and go, or even may get worse over time. However there is a possibility that they can also resolve entirely. Few common vision problems that are associated with MS include:
  • optic neuritis, it's a condition which can cause pain or blurry vision in one eye
  • diplopia, or what's known as double vision
  • nystagmus, the involuntary movement of the eyes
  • blindness
  • Speech issues : this condition can causes lesions in the brain which can affect speech. Such speech issues, also known as dysarthria that can range from mild to severe. Some symptoms of dysarthria may include the following:
  • slurred speech
  • scanning speech, that is where there are long pauses between the words or syllables
  • change in the volume of speech

There are some other fairly common symptoms of MS which include following:

  • acute or sometimes chronic pain
  • tremors
  • cognitive issues which involve concentration, memory, and word finding
  • difficulty during chewing and swallowing
  • sleep issue
  • problems with the bladder control.

How is ms weird feeling in head diagnosed?

Mostly a neurologist, will need to perform a neurological exam on a person who is suspected of Multiple Sclerosis. The medical consultant will also ask about clinical history and may often order a series of other tests to determine if a person has MS. The Diagnostic testing may include the following :

  • MRI scan : Using a contrast dye material with the MRI allows the neurologist to detect active and inactive lesions throughout the brain and the spinal cord.
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT) : it's  test in which a picture is taken of the nerve layers in the back of the eye to check if there is any thinning around the optic nerve.
  • Spinal tap or as long called lumbar puncture: the doctor can order a spinal tap to find abnormalities if there are any abnormalities in the spinal fluid. This test can fully help in ruling out the infectious diseases. The test can also be used to look for oligoclonal bands , which can be used to diagnose MS.
  • Blood tests : Doctors order the blood tests to help eliminate the possibility of other conditions which have kind off similar symptoms.
  • Visual evoked potentials test that's is VEP : This test needs the stimulation of nerve pathways to see and analyze electrical activity in the brain. Before this test came into use the brain stem auditory-evoked and sensory evoked potential tests were also used to diagnose the MS but not anymore.
  • A confirmed MS diagnosis requires evidence of demyelination occurring at different times and in more than one area of the brain, of spinal cord, or of optic nerves. Demyelination is a process which prevents the nerves from efficiently sending signals. The diagnosis also needs ruling out other conditions which have similar symptoms like the Lyme disease, lupus, and the Sjögren’s disease are just a few examples out of them.

How is ms weird feeling in head treated?

There is no cure  currently available for MS, but treatment options exist which can help a person to manage the symptoms and improve the quality of life.

  • Disease-modifying therapies known as DMT's : DMTs are designed in a way to slow the progression of MS and lower the chances of relapse .
  • Self-injectable medications, these are disease modifying include glatiramer acetate  and beta interferons, like :
  • Avonex
  • Betaseron
  • Extavia
  • Plegridy
  • Rebif
  • Kesimpta is a monoclonal antibody treatment and was just approved in 2020 and can be self-administered.
  • Oral medications for RRMS include the following :
  • dimethyl fumarate
  • fingolimod
  • teriflunomide
  • cladribine
  • diroximel fumarate
  • siponimod
  • Intravenous infusion treatments for RRMS include the following:
  • alemtuzumab
  • natalizumab
  • mitoxantrone
  • Ocrelizumab

In the 2017, the FDA  approved the first DMT for people who suffer with PPMS. It's an infusion drug  called ocrelizumab and it can also be used to treat people with RRMS

The bottom line

Ms weird feeling with head is very common symptom of this condition people mostly have headaches of different types can be throbbing one or tension one but the definite cause is not known yet.

The persons quality of life with MS depends on the symptoms and how well the person responds to treatment process.

However even though this disease is unpredictable it can change course without warning, it’s very rarely fatal. Most people who suffer with MS don’t become severely disabled, and typically continue to lead full lives.

As there is no cure for this, it's mostly about managing symptoms which is possible in most cases.
